If everything were perfect, we would forget how to make du'a.
That is exactly how we should perceive the essence of this life. What meaning would there be if every desire materialized instantly, without shedding a single tear, without enduring the long nights spent in waiting? If this world had no flaws, we would never comprehend the profound cost of hope. Everything would become hollow and monotonous. We would lose the space for our souls to evolve, ignoring the truth that our spirit needs to experience thirst to truly appreciate a single drop of water.
Imperfections, in truth, are Allah's way of saving us from our own arrogance. The wounds, the failures, and the dead ends we encounter are not curses, but rather invisible invitations from the Heavens. Allah intentionally leaves empty spaces within our grand plans so we realize that no matter how hard we try, humans are ultimately fragile beings incapable of walking entirely alone. It is through those very cracks that His light enters, compelling us to bow our heads and seek an eternal sanctuary to lean on.
And it is right there that we discover the miracle of du'a. Making du'a is the most profoundly beautiful act a human being is capable of performing. It is not merely a sequence of desperate pleas recited when we are cornered; it is the most majestic art of surrender. Du'a is a flawless dialogue. While the outside world constantly demands us to appear invincible, resilient, and put-together, du'a offers the safest refuge. It is the one and only realm where we are not required to be anyone but ourselves.
Through du'a, we articulate what truly lives and breathes in the deepest, darkest corners of our hearts. There is no grammar to perfect, no human judgment to fear. Even when our chests are too suffocated by reality and our lips fail to construct a single word, Allah already comprehends the deafening roar of those silent tears. Making du'a is the most vulnerable state of a soul, where all pretenses crumble to dust, leaving behind nothing but the purest honesty between a servant and Allah.
Furthermore, du'a is the art of praying for others, the most silent way to embrace the lives of our fellow human beings. Especially when we are blessed with a heart that is so easily touched by the smallest things around us. When we truly reflect upon it, we have absolutely no reason not to make du'a for others. Praying for someone in silence is the most boundless form of pure kindness. For a soft heart, wishing goodness upon others is never a heavy burden, but rather a natural reflex. We do not need a grand reason, validation, or a profound bond to simply invoke mercy for someone else. Because ultimately, every time we ask for Allah's affection to embrace the universe and its people, we are nurturing the most humane part within ourselves.
Therefore, in the end, I choose to make du'a. Because raising our trembling hands and yielding all our affairs to Allah is never a defeat. Making du'a is not a sign that we have surrendered to the harshness of fate in despair. On the contrary, it is the ultimate victory over our own ego. It is an absolute acknowledgment, the most beautiful realization, that no matter how far we wander, we will always need Allah to guide us home.
Because if everything were perfect, we would forget how to make du'a.
